Overview of the U.O.I.
Central Idea: People trade to gain what they need and desire.
An inquiry into:
1. The reasons why trade has evolved (function )
2. Ways in which trading makes people interdependent (connection)
3. Issues of fairness in trading (responsibility)
Teacher questions:
1. Why do people trade? (function)
2. How does trade influence people’s lives? (connection)
3. How can we be responsible consumers? (responsibility)
4. What has value? (perspective)
Summative Assessment:
In small groups:
Students will hold a fair. They will design and/or make something of value or provide a service. Students need to canvas other students (yrs 3 – 6) to determine this need or desire. Students have a number of items or services in mind when canvassing the target market.
Students also need to identify the value of their own product. Students will advertise, design and make their product before selling this at a Trade Fair (held over one week).
